The grey seal is the largest seal species in Europe. It spends a lot of time in the water but regularly comes ashore or onto sandbanks to rest or give birth to its young. Its name comes from the elongated, cone-shaped snout.

Males are significantly larger than females and can grow over 2 meters long. The fur is gray to brown with dark spots. The head is elongated, and the eyes are large and dark.
Orcas and large sharks
Not poisonous. In the wild, usually shy around humans.
Grey seals can dive for several minutes and swim surprisingly fast. Youngsters have a white, woolly fur that they lose after a few weeks.
