The colonies of these corals are characterized by their large, round to oval corallites, with widely spaced and irregularly arranged septa.
They form massive, hemispherical colonies that grow flat and crusty. These colonies are often greenish or brownish in color, and the large polyps can appear in a variety of hues.

These corals require a lot of light, so they prefer to settle on well-lit reef tops, the upper reef slopes, and in lagoons where light conditions are optimal.
