Bajo de Fuera is one of the most versatile dive sites in the Mediterranean: from protected marine life to parts of several shipwrecks, it has it all.
The Bajo de Fuera, or “The Rock of Vapor”, is a death trap for boats – on the slopes of the shoal, located 5.6 km from the coast, countless ships were wrecked in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The remains of the ships can still be dived today and blend beautifully into the ecosystem of the Islas-Hormigas reserve.
The Rock of Vapor can be dived from 6-60 m. In the shallower areas, this dive site fascinates with its biodiversity.
Divers are accompanied by schools of barracuda (Sphyraenidae) and in the hiding spots that the rock structure provides, one may be lucky enough to spot the occasional moray eel (Muraena helena).
