According to legend, a young woman named Żgugina promised the Greek god St. Demetrius to light an oil lamp every day in the chapel on the cliffs of Gharb if he would return her only son, who had been taken by pirates.
St. Demetrius granted her wish, and Żgugina kept her promise.
Thus, every night a single oil lamp burned in the chapel on the cliff until an earthquake shook the island and the chapel collapsed into the sea with the rocks.
If you believe the words of the fishermen, you can still see the oil lamp shining today from the chapel, which has miraculously remained undamaged, beneath the surface of the water, and you can still hear the ringing of the bell.
The dive route begins at a protected promontory known by the locals as Tirxa.
A gentle slope leads to some massive boulders guarded by some barracudas and dentex.
But also schools of barracuda, tunas, and amberjacks are not uncommon here.
On the inside of the rock ledge, there is a gorge to explore between the reef platform and the shore, where marine life unfolds in all its glory.
