As the name suggests, the Small Scorpionfish is the smallest of its kind and is also less common than the others in the Mediterranean. So every diver who spots this little guy can call himself lucky.

The Small Scorpionfish looks much like other Scorpionfish with its squat body, large head and mouth, and frayed shape caused by skin growths.
However, what distinguishes it from its relatives is the black spot on the back section of the dorsal fin and the huge eyes. Also, his eyes are crowned by small tentacles.
It is red or brown in color and only grows up to 26cm.
None
Like other Scorpionfish, this species has venomous glands in the spines of their fins and the thorns of their gill covers.

1. Huge eyes
2. Frayed mouth
3. Eye tentacles
4. Distinctive dark spot
5. Spines
The Little Scorpionfish is a poor swimmer and therefore mainly stays on the ground. In doing so, it blends well with its surroundings.
He usually sits alone on rocks and waits for his next prey. These can be crustaceans, but also small fish.
It reproduces in May.
A sting of this type can be very painful, so you should admire it with a safe distance if possible.
When he is irritated, he sets up his spiky fins to warn you.
However, we are not aware of an active attack from his side.
