The striped hagfish is easily recognizable by its black stripe, which runs along its white body.

This hagfish has a very delicate physique, which is complemented by large, transparent side fins, which run along its entire body.
If he wants to look around, he uses his ventral fins, with the help of which he stands up and supports himself.
Two small fanned tentacle antlers are emblazoned above his huge, round red eyes.
Predatory fish
The striped hagfish is neither dangerous nor venomous.

1. Noticeably red eye
2. Fanned tentacle antlers
3. Black polka dot stripe
The striped hagfish prefers to stay on bright rocks or gravel, as there is usually no strong swell here.
Curiosity often drives this little colleague out of his rock hole, where he spends his time exploring and looking for food. The seabed is carefully searched for food - small invertebrates such as shrimps, but also algae are a treat for the palate.
When he is not in the mood to search for food himself, he simply cleans other fish and eats their parasites. If he is disturbed by enemies during his trips, he quickly rotates to the side and presents his black side strip to the enemy in full splendor. If this doesn't help, he doesn't shy away from defending himself by pushing and biting.
