Appearance

It's not hard to guess the origin of it's name: this algae looks like a small funnel. Narrower at the bottom and wider at the top. It also has light and dark stripes.

It doesn't matter to the funnel algae whether it spreads horizontally or vertically, it just wants to grow further and further. 

However, it has a strong Mediterranean opponent: the Umbrella Algea.   

 

By the way, it is one of the pantropical species. That means that it is distributed in both tropical and subtropical zones.

It is widespread throughout the Mediterranean and also in the adjacent Atlantic.
